Lately, I've been screening my beloved two-disk set of Hideaki Anno's feature film Evangelion:  2.22 You Can (Not) Advance (Tokyo:  Studio Khara, 2009).  There's one thing which both angers and bemuses me, however:  the insistence by whomever is in charge of the English-language dubbing that Captain Asuka Langley Shikinami's given name be pronounced "Ossica".  All other characters' names, given names and surnames alike, are pronounced the English-language way — which is what one expects in an English-language dub.  All but Asuka, that is.

Roll Eyes

As far as I'm concerned, her given name is pronounced "ah-SOO-kah" and not "OSS-ah-kah".  Ossica ain't the gal I've followed all these years via cassettes and disks.  Now I've got to change the spelling of her given name:  It's Ossica, apparently.  Actually, the way it's pronounced by the voice actors makes it sound more like "Oscar" than anything else.

Angry

English dubs, ignore 'em. xD

I pronounce it as you do Fly, you're not alone. They're just silly.

Thanks for your support in this, Tragic.  I'm going to Flower Mound, Texas, where Funimation Entertainment is located (North American distributor) and then I'm going to find Gen Fukunaga (chief executive officer and president) and then I'm going to give him a pie-in-the-face greeting.  Would you care to come along?  We can wear black masks and shout "All power to the Ossica Liberation Movement!" before slipping away into the night, never to be seen in Flower Mound again.
