Yeah, Tragic, it's all too true.  People see what they want to see, in order to justify and reinforce their personal or political agendas.  I'm no different, generally speaking, though I've tended to respect art and literature for what it's teaching; and anime has much to teach, for those who are willing to look past superficialities.
