Uriku is right about the inheritance of colorblindness though. Women more often than not are carriers of the colorblindness gene. It is carried on the X chromosome, so any male that is colorblind has to have inherited it from the mother.

Put it this way.

Female: XX
Male: XY

X' = colorblind gene
X = normal gene

Females that are X'X are carriers, but will have normal vision.
Males that are X'Y will be colorblind.

Since sperm determines the sex of the baby, the only way a woman would be colorblind is if the father was colorblind and the mother was at least a carrier. This doesn't happen too often, so thus colorblind women aren't too common.
