Wow.... 26 April 2001 – 26 September 2006 - Junichiro Koizumi (served full term) 26 September 2006 – 26 September 2007 - Shinzo Abe (resigned because of "Diarrhea", but everyone knows it's because of his unpopularity) 26 September 2007 - Present (resigned TODAY September 1st) - Yasuo Fukuda (could not handle the deadlock between the conflicting Liberal Democrats [Conservatives/Center Right] and the [Social] Democrats). Wow, must be a pretty tough job if you ask me. Koizumi was Lionheart, so he could take the job . Oh yeah, note that all 3 of these PM's are part of the Liberal Democrats, since conservative liberalism has been the majority party in Japan for some time now . P.S: http://blog.livedoor.jp/dqnplus/archives/1171272.html - Looks like a lot of wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww (lols?) to me . Thoughts, comments? =/

Actually the LDP has been the only ruling party in Japan. No opposition can surmass the LDP's "popularity" - although, in Japan, people are indifferent to politics in comparison with other countries of the western world (who are less indifferent/cynic as I have read in textbooks).
This is propably related to the very free-market approach taken in Japan; the social net is made of shoestrings, not rope >.>. If the LDP factions into two parties (liberals and social democrats), it will model one of two possibilites that are/were present in the Canadian system (so long as there is only one major opposition party):
1. Support for the Liberal government is much greater and it eclipses the Social Democrats leading to a bi-party system causing narrow majorities and closer election reaces where there is competition on the Left (From social democrats) and Centre (Right wing parties). (Canadian Liberal governments, particularly the election of '04 leading to lib minority)
2. The support is split between liberals and social democrats equally, giving rise to the right wing powers for the next decade or two. Whoever this party is will consistently form a government until both parties can unite once more. (Factionalization of the reformers from the Conservatives, decades of Liberal rule during Turner and Cretien, uniting the parties leads to forming Government, election of '06).

For those who are lazy to switch wikis using the "other languages" bar, it's Taro Aso, and Yuriko Koike =P.

I would love to see a female PM in Japan. Maybe then we would see some changes...or not, as she might be even LESS likely to upset the status quo.

1st Female PM of JP you mean . Women always seem to make a difference when they're in power for some reason . Bloody Mary, Isabella of Spain, Elizabeth I, Margaret Thatcher, Cleopatra, Joan d' Arc, Angela Merkel, Corazon Aquino, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana.... The list goes on and on and on and on and on We'll have the 1st woman president if McCain wins, and becomes unable to work in the office =P

Heh. There certainly will be a female in the White House before there is a female leading the Diet.
