Allagash Brewing Company (one of my favorite breweries) is releasing their second offering from their limited edition series (it's called "Vagabond") on October 19th. To celebrate, I figured I'd ask everyone what their favorite beer is or if anyone has any recommendations.

Here are some of my favorite beers:

+ Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
+ Allagash White
+ Allagash Gargamel
+ Shipyard Pumpkinhed
+ Cantillon Framboise
+ Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale

Ahh... Beer. One of the greatest things on this planet.

To be honest, I don't get too much into very diversified beers. I drink what I can get around me which isn't exactly anything awesome. I've had most of the basic popular beers and some exotic ones here and there, but I can't get my hands on anything crazy in this part of Illinois. I'm up for a good Blue Moon, Coors Light, Heineken, Budweiser, etc... It all has it's own tastes and flavors.

to tell you the truth, I don't like beer that much. I'm not sure what's wrong with me. It's just too bitter at times or I feel the alcohol too much. Been sensitive recently. bah.
As a rule of the thumb, I like dark beers. They are somewhat sweeter in taste and can hold more alcohol.

I do not quite different between beer, lager, and the rest, so I'm going to reference them all as just beer.

good beers though:
+ Kozel.

A nice dark Czech beer that I am fond of. Comes in a big cylinder glass, which I like. 4%-5% alcohol.

+ Hobgoblin.

A nice sweet beer. Has a noticeable lychee or similar taste. 4.5% alcohol.

+ O'hara's

I know as dark beer, but comes in other flavors. I haven't tasted it too many times, but I think you won't be wrong if you choose this beer. 4%-5% alcohol.

STRONG BEERS:

+ Delirium

A strong, 10% alcohol beer. Noticeable by it's unique elephant (which is why I tried it). Come in dark and white.
Doesn't hit you very strong, though.

+ Maredsous

A very strong, 10% alcohol, Belgian white beer. Very bitter from alcohol, and hits you very strong.

+ Duvel

A tasty, dark, 10% alcohol beer. It's a shame I only tasted it in a bottle and not from a keg. The Duvel brewery also brews Maredsous, so I guess that's why they have the same peculiar bottle.

+ San Bernardus

A dark, 10% alcohol beer. Also very strong bitter taste.

It's difficult to go back to normal beers after these :\

What the hell, how did i miss this?

Well.. To be honest Im not too picky about my beer. (Whiskey on the other hand..)
I like everything from dark guinness to stuff that looks like water.

Sweden got some awesome beer, sadly they don't do well internationally since our taxes are so damn high.

I have two I usually get:

Femkommatvåan. (more or less means 5,2% stupid name. lol)

This is a big favorite among Students over here, its cheap, and really good.

Theeen we have my all time favorite: Mariestad.

Expencive.. >_> But worth it.

I usually start the day with my Marie, when I still can taste a difference. And then move on to Femkommatvåan.

Ever see any of these, check em out. :3

lol, I want to try 5.3%. Sounds so cool Tongue

you know, I'm actually pretty picky about beers, and less about Whiskey, though you know when it's bad Whiskey. What is wrong with me? O_O

ooh. I forgot, Baltika!

Russion beer. has numbers from 0 (non alcoholic) to 9 (8.something% alcohol).
Hits you _so_ hard, especially in those huge 1Liter cans. Baltika 9 tastes like some kind of a interbreed between bread, vodka, and water. Baltika 7 (5.6% I believe) is actually decent, and cheap. Still hits you like a rack.

I understand what you mean Red... After some beer, you start not tasting them, then it's like you're drinking nothing. Ahhh, the beauty of inebriation. xP

BEER

I drank a lot of beer back in the 1960s.  My favorite beer-drinking memories are those involving a group of us from work going to Lum's in Miami, where we would knock back bottles of beer whilst dining on beer-steamed hot dogs and Lumbergers (like sloppy Joes only way better).

My personal favorite beverage was Guinness Stout.  Most of my drinking buddies thought it was too heavy, but I loved it and still do.

Another favorite brew of mine in those days was Michelob.  Most everybody liked Michelob, but it was more expensive than other domestic beers.

One beer-like drink I tried numerous times in my Miami days, without ever coming to like it, was a malt liquor called Champale.  The golf course I used to frequent sold the stuff.  Champale's advertising in those days relied on an appeal to the posh side of one's character, hence its presence at golf courses.

Toward the end of my party-hearty days, in the late 1970s, I acquired a taste for Carlsberg Elephant Malt Liquor.  It was a bit costly, but it tasted good and got you buzzed in no time at all.

That's about it, for me.  Beer drinking gave way to, shall we say, other substances.  That ended a long time ago, too.  I still enjoy drinking a few pints, but such occasions are rare nowadays as they require some semblance of a social life.

Cool

ooh. I forgot, Baltika!

The problem with Baltika is the water in Russia is terrible. When I lived in Petersburg during the Summer of '05 you had to boil all your water because there was so much bacteria and stuff. Somehow I doubt that's changed much since I was there. Baltika tastes fine, it's just that it makes me sick (whether I have one or six) from all the bacteria.

Generally, I like really hoppy beers like IPA or pale ale, but I also enjoy wheat beers and white ale. And I'm not above a good fruit beer, either.

@Flyvåpnet
Wow, a bar named Lum's. I would've drank there all the time, too. Granted, that was probably there before Urusei Yatsura came out, but still...

lol, so that's why it's so..unique XP

actually, good beer is made from good water. I remember that being a reason why people in Europe drank so much beer, because you needed good water to make decent beer, so beer was safer than water.

LOL @ kaznokrad!  If Lum herself had been at Lum's, back in the day, I'd never have left the premises - except in her company.  Alas!  Now I'm too old for her; and the Lum's chain of establishments passed from the scene long ago.

For Red and Mindy (or anyone else that plans to visit Sweden in late September/early October),

I don't know how much you guys care about beer, but I just saw via facebook that one of the local breweries I enjoy (Smuttynose Brewing from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, US) will be showcasing some of their beers at the Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival.

I also dunno how far you guys are from Stockholm, but I figured if you were going to the fest anyway I'd recommend a little taste of northern New England Grin

Had this on tap before I left America and then again in bottle form a few days ago in Osaka. I like it a lot. Yay, sour beer!

I love ale personally. For those not in the uk, ale is different to bitter, lager or generally beer. Hobgoblin is an ale but I'm not keen on it. I prefer bishops finger or spitfire. Both traditional Kentish ales
