It's not beer, but nobody is gonna post in a shouchuu thread, so I'm co-opting this one Tongue

I bought this an hour ago. It's called "The Magic Kiss" with the subtitle, "A kiss from a witch". It's apparently only available in Fukui, Ishikawa, and Toyama prefectures (or so says the tag that comes with it).

I'll give them the witch part. It certainly resembles some 500-year old hag that controls "the dark side" deep throats so far down that she pulls out your stomach lining when she breaks it off. It's pretty damn strong for 25%, but then again, it's potato shouchuu, which is generally considered the least drinkable of shouchuus among everyone except the residents of Kagoshima prefecture.

If I were you I'd stick to Cantillon Tongue

So, what then is considered the MOST drinkable shouchuu?

rice-based shouchuu. It goes rice->barley->potato (and then soba and all the weird ones kinda don't fit into the paradigm)

I've always thought of shouchuu as a silent killer...

Last time I drank it, I felt fine then after about 20 minutes, it all hit me. It was fun though haha

Is anyone here into mead?  I think mead is wonderful, but it's not so easy to find in the States as it is in Europe.

GOD. That malt liquor is rooouuuggghhh. I drank 2 cans once and was all messed up. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're cheap and really want to get drunk.

Well, looks like the FDA has effectively banned alcoholic energy drinks. Four Loko was never distributed in Maine, so I'll never have a chance to try it. I have tried Tilt from Anheuser Busch (before they stopped making it) and that made me feel like I was tripping.

@ Fly
I had a really good cyser (mixture of cider and mead) from B. Nektar out of Michigan. I can't remember what it was called (I can't find it on their website), but it tasted like apple pie. They seem to do some pretty interesting stuff, like pineapple, coconut, strawberry, vanilla cinnamon, agave-infused meads, etc. I'd also really like to try Maine Mead Works' Dry Hopped Mead, although it's too bad they only use Cascade hops.

@SK
Given that malted barley produces many "sophisticated" alcoholic beverages, like bourbon and scotch (though I do love me some Johnny Walker as well as bourbon barrel aged beers), and the wide availability of rice in Japan, I'm surprised rice-based shouchuu is considered the most drinkable. Then again, if we're talking about drinkability, you can't exactly down glass after glass of bourbon or scotch...
