Of Mice and Men. Do people have the will to move forward and amount to something if they don't have anyone to move forward with?

The saying, "wealth is nothing with someone to share it with", is it true?

Can we live like Tom Hanks in Cast Away without Wilson the Volleyball?

Go ahead, discuss my friends!

People are, by nature, social creatures. So I say no, they can't live without SOMETHING to be attached to. Or else they go crazy. xD

Think of the hikikomori! D:

Lots of literary examples....

although the only one I can think of at the moment is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein because its kinda late and my brain is dead :P

I think it might be possible, but for me, I wouldn't be able to. It'd be a horribly lonely world then.

Well there are people like myself that can be alone for long periods of time(my record is 3 months), but in general we are social creatures and we would be unable to survive completely alone without getting crazy. If i can stay long periods of time without human contact its because i know that i can stop anytime and go and see someone. It's my decision. There are also people who dont like to attach to anyone, but one way or another they know that they could if they had the option. Now a situation like the ending of Saikano would drive anyone crazy. lol, true, which was mess up in a way Madwolf ^^;;;

Ermm, I could be considered a Hikikomori, as I never go out & mostly try to avoid going out, except when I get tired of been inside ^^;;

Normally, I wouldn't even care, for one reason . . .

Like mother, like son, we both can't be in places with people, & I get stressful @___@

The thing that would kill me from insanity, would be hunger rather than lonelyness & that is a fact @___@

The real question:

Why would you want to be cut off from everyone and everything?

No man is an island

However, it can sometimes be something to aspire to. hermits and recluses can simply be able to live their lives without social interaction. We may be social animals but some people can live without the psychological need to be around other people.

it comes in lesser forms of course, like people who you might not have seen in decades and you see them and you find that they still think about you the same way you think about them. Like the fact you've not spoken to them for years hasn't changed their opinion of you, and it probably hasn't.

That said, life is a lot more fun with social interaction Smiley

Social interaction and relationships with friends and family make us humans humans. Otherwise, we'd be more like animals. XP Although, sometimes we seem like animals -_-'

There has been experiments testing to see if people can survive on their own or not. <for deep space travel> Although there will probably be three or more people on the ship, seeing those three people time and again can drive a person nutty just like being alone.
