Here's an example of what today would be deemed a politically-incorrect song.  It was acceptable in its day, which may be why we had a 78 revolutions-per-minute recording of it in our home when I was a little kid.  Anyway, it's Arthur Godfrey's "Too Fat Polka" (New York:  Columbia Records, 1947).  Click here to learn more about Arthur Godfrey.

Of course, you'll want the sheet music:

I appreciate your bravery in auditioning that song, 0235, then writing something positive about it!  I rather expected either (a) no one would reply to this thread or (b) those who did would mistake me for the song's composers or performers - though I was only 3 years old at the time - and would write discouraging flame-like things indicating what a bad person I am for posting such a thing.

Angry

Thank you for falling into neither of those categories!  About re-issuing that or similar politically-incorrect songs, I think it's best to leave them as relics of a bygone era.  I've another Arthur Godfrey song which is even worse, but I'll spare everyone here the pain of auditioning "Heap Big Smoke But No Fire" as it's both unbearably corny and even more offensive than "Too Fat Polka".

Shocked

Mind, it's not that I like those songs.  It's just that I was reflecting upon my childhood and recalled them.  So I went a-hunting on the Web and there they were!  Obviously there was a time when such "humorous" songs were acceptable and even enjoyable, which probably accounts for the presence of them on 78 r.p.m. records in our home back in the day.

Red, you like it too?  Geez, that's two of you who like it.  I'm amazed!  I may just have to post that other song, the one I said was really awful.

lol i've been lurking around the last few days, but i just had to speak up and say this song is awesome! Probably cause i'm hardly politically-correct when it comes to pretty much anything, but i didn't even find it to be that mean. Tongue
Interesting piece of culture too since i believed people's infatuation with being skinny and seeing that as beauty was mostly a thing of the last couple of decades or so, but i guess i was wrong.

Indeed, 0235, by today's standards it's extremely politically incorrect!  MadWolf, you've hit the nail on the head:  There's entirely too much anally-retentive policy and thought abroad in the land these days.  People should definitely lighten up!

(I found the expression "heap big smoke but no fire" on several Native American Indian Web sites, in contexts commensurate with what the song describes.  This tells me Indians are - generally speaking - a lot more circumspect about the human condition than their politically-correct African, Asian and European brethren in the U.S.)
