For anyone caring, my team
(HV71) is off onto the semifinals. :3
That's great, Red! Any time your team makes the playoffs it makes life a lot more exciting. Sadly, my
University of Maine Black Bears lost the Hockey East championship to the hated Boston College Eagles 7-6, thus losing the opportunity to compete for the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship. However, we were down 5-6 and scored the equalizer on a face-off in BC's zone with just seconds left. It was a helluva game, but ultimately a disappointment. Though I didn't attend the University of Maine, every native Mainer has a soft spot in their heart for the Black Bears, since this is pretty much the only sport that Maine has going for it, being one of the least populated states in the US. Normally in the US it's football (read "American football") that dominates the college sports scene, but in the northeast it's all about college hockey.
Hockey East (widely considered one of the best conferences in college hockey, routinely producing NCAA championship teams) consists solely of teams from northeastern states, such as Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and (ugh...) Massachusetts.
Also, you'll be happy to know, Red, that Swede
Gustav Nyquist helped revitalize the UMaine hockey program, leading all of US college hockey in goals scored.
Sorry for the long post, but when I talk about all things Maine, I tend to get a bit overzealous.
