The hole under the window sill is probably for an air conditioner system for a single room. They normally run a pipe to the outside by a window. (don't ask me why, I have no clue)

Thanks for sharing Fly.  It's really interesting that you have a lot of things from different places.  Also, I didn't know you got rid of a lot of your figurine collection.

You're welcome, Shuji!  Yeah, it hit me one day that there were entirely too many figurines here in the apartment.  They were everywhere!  Mind, I'd stopped buying such things but the mere presence of that cadre of figurines had become overpowering.  So, I contacted a gal I know at deviantArt - she's an excellent Yoko cosplayer - and told her she could have all the figurines if she'd come and get them.  She did!

I'd kept the original boxes and discovered it was much more difficult putting them back in their containers than it had been taking them out.  So now I've one Yoko figurine, one tiny Tifa Lockhart figurine, one smallish Hinoki Sai figurine and three Princess Menace of Amara figurines.  The rest - about 22 of Yoko, three of Asuka Langley Shikinami and three of Tifa - are now living in a new home.

its nice to se that people can live in "small" appartments, and that the space works well.
like red said about his kitchen, why do you need a huge kitchen. so long as you got an oven for pizza and a fridge for beer, then you are sorted for life.
