Demonoid is a famous/popular semi-private torrent tracker, reason why it's semi-private is that Sign-Ups are opened [I think] at least once/twice every couple months. Which is more often than many of the real private trackers. Great thing about Demonoid (and other true private trackers) is that a lot of the time the community is good and torrents tend to stay alive a lot longer. I believe they will have sign-ups open when they are fully back up (since many accounts are gone) so if you wanna check it out you can sign-up For more information here's a Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demonoid Edit: or if you can't wait, I can still generate invites it seems

I've heard a lot about Demonoid and I always see the txt file saying 'from demonoid.com' in a lot of torrents (when I could get them). I didn't know you could sign up on some days, I thought it was just invite only.

Demonoid supposedly has open sign-ups occasionally on Fridays of each month.
From what I've heard, the invites are dependent on share ratio and something similar. If someone invited is booted because of problems, the person who invited him/her is also booted as well.

If that's true Karin, then I dunno how I got invites cause I don't have a 1.0 ratio on there lol...in fact if I remember, I was able to generate invites even when I had a crappy ratio (why oh why did I get that Naruto torrent....) Oh and, they really don't use the ratios much other than appearances from what I can gather: My ratio is getting too low, am I going to be banned? The ratio system is purely statistical and somewhat innacurate for the ones with shared or dynamic ips. Besides what other users may think of you for not sharing, there is no punishment for having a low ratio.

Wait what? Demonoid isn't that heavy on those rules... Dont really make sense since the tracker is kinda public.
That sounds more like torrentbytes..
Anyhow, I guess a YAY is in order.

If you mean by ratios than yea, Demonoid is actually considered as a "Ratioless" tracker where well as it says in the word no ratio is kept for anything really, but it is advised to keep seeding a while after download. (please note, Demonoid isn't the only ratioless tracker out there) And many private trackers sorta enforce ratios mainly cause it's an automated system, and tends to keep many torrents alive. And main difference between Demonoid and the many many private trackers out there, you can upload pretty much anything to Demonoid whereas many private trackers only allow certain content like Scene released stuff, music, HD Video, porn (yes there are porn private trackers), and well I can post a complete list of categories if you want haha

Jun, thanks for that link to the Wikipedia page on Demonoid.com. I feel guilty about not seeding more, but for the past few months I've been experiencing a strange phenomenon: when I activate either BitTorrent or Soulseek, I'm immediately pelted with intermittent-connection balloons from the operating system. "A network cable is unplugged." Since there is no unplugged network cable I'm wondering what's going on - along with dozens of others on line who've been asking (and not receiving useful answers to) that question at various geek sites. Anyway, I appreciate your generous offer of an invitation code; but I'll reluctantly pass on that for now, because I need to first get this intermittent-connection thing sorted. Both BitTorrent and Soulseek tell me my relevant ports are open and set up properly, as I've done all the necessary fussing with the router and the static-IP address thing. So I get green lights from them but fault balloons from the operating system. Consequently, I'm giving the whole thing a rest: I've disabled the special settings on the router and am keeping off of BitTorrent and Soulseek. This makes the balloons go away, but it's not a satisfactory scenario. =^..^=

Hmm, well I would say that there could be a problem with your cable (either the end that's plugged into your computer, or the end in the router) but since you say it only happens while you have your bittorrent client and/or SoulSeek running....it could be other things (I think) Got any way to try it on a wifi enabled computer/laptop?

Well, Jun, it's definitely not being caused by either a faulty or poorly-connected cable. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability - or at least I'm unaware of any ability - to bring Wi-Fi into play: my IBM Lenovo R52 1847 CTO ThinkPad has wireless built in, but I'm in somewhat of a "dead zone" - not to mention the fact I've no wireless modem/router to use with the desktop machine Orion sent me. What I think the problem is, is that either the Internet service provider (Comcast) or Microsoft - or both - recently instituted measures to hinder peer-to-peer file sharing: Comcast via secretive filters and Microsoft with connection-interrupting software hidden inside operating-system updates. They're both huge corporations, hence they're by nature devious and greedy; and that's not apt to change. One of these days, some public-spirited computing-system brainiac will figure out a fix; but for now, it's all a big mystery as well as a giant pain in the butt. =^..^=

Hmm, so you say it does this on each of your computers? If so, then probably Comcast related (as I've never heard of anything like this happening cause of Windows)....I believe I have a tut/guide thing that is like a workaround for Comcast, will have to check again to see which ISP it's for though.

I don't believe it is the computer. (since I built it and it has a fresh load of windows on it) What do you use to do your torrents Fly? And wireless will only work if you have a wireless modem/router in the house. Your laptop will have the ability to hook up wirelessly, but there probably isn't any signals for it to pick up.

I use BitTorrent, Orion. But the same intermittent-connection crap happens when I run Soulseek. This connectivity strangeness only began within the past several weeks and only takes place when peer-to-peer file sharing is in progress. It's happening with Yoko (laptop) and now Yomako (desktop). I've followed all the instructions quite carefully - port forwarding, static IP address - and never had a problem until recently. There are boatloads of complaints about this phenomenon posted to geek/technical boards, but so far nobody's come up with an across-the-board fix; neither are the "experts" laying blame, but I am - squarely at the feet of Internet service providers. =^..^=
