There's a community at LiveJournal.com called The Ultimate Fancomic and Doujinshi Listing, which presents reviews of manga.  I have posting access there and want to submit a review of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Guren Gakuenhen, but one small matter is holding this up:  I need to indicate a rating -- so is it G, PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17?

I honestly don't know which category applies, since I think all such ratings are silly and I've never paid any attention to their criteria.  Anyway, I can't seem to find an indication of any rating on the available pages -- so anybody's educated guess will do.

By the way, I think this manga is refreshing -- so far -- and I'm giving it a positive spin in my review.  It won't be what you'd get from some folks, however!  In Chapter 4, after all, Yoko takes on Adiane in combat whilst everybody else stands around making excuses for not getting involved -- until the very end of the fight, when the bystanders want to get credit for being part of it.  I thought this was an exciting scenario, clearly showing who had spine and who did not.

If this manga continues to give Yoko an even break and doesn't treat her like crap (like the anime series did) my enthusiasm for it won't wane.  Just so you know, below is the required template I'm following; and it's all ready to go except for the rating.

Quote
< b >Series:< /b > Name of Series
< b >Story By:< /b > Name of Story Writer
< b >Art By:< /b > Name of Artist
< b >Rating:< /b > G, PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17

< b >Description:< /b > Describe the fancomic or doujinshi in your own words, without spoiling the story and without exceeding 100 words. Please tack on a pairing at the end if it applies, using this format: Someone/Someone.

< b >Comments:< /b > Be sure to mention if you took the summary from the website. If the comic is based off a fanfic, say so and post the link here. You can also add some personal comments about the story, such as your impressions of it or your favourite parts. Remember: no spoilers and do not exceed 100 words.

Your help in advising me on a rating will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

So, Red, does this mean you know what happens and figure I'll be disappointed?  Please enlighten me!  It's a positive review right now; and that LiveJournal community's template has a "Complete?  Yes or no" question, which means they're aware of how things go scanlation-wise: it takes time.   But that shouldn't stop people from enjoying the first four chapters, should it?

This is somewhat disappointing.  Waiting on two more chapters would, of course, give others whose perspectives might differ from mine time to get a review in ahead of me.  I was only trying to help the cause.

Huh

Well its not really Yoko focused, but I dont think you'll be disspointed.

Last two chapters are focused on
Spoiler for Hiden:
Shimon and Nia going all "evil Nia" and him trying to get her back.

We've consider picking up a Yoko focused 4koma, but from what kryss says its not worth it, it wasnt very great, and kinda stupid.
But if we get low on projects some time we might pick it up.

Red, where might one find this 4-frame Yoko-focused comic; or is it not on line anywhere?  It's just so unusual to hear of anything Yoko-focused via an anime-related site these days!  It would be nice to know a bit more about that comic, apart from those vague generalities reported to you.

Thanks for your information regarding the last two chapters of the high-school manga!  I appreciate your reconnaissance for my benefit; and you'll not be surprised to learn I'm greatly relieved -- not because of what you described happening, but because of what apparently doesn't happen.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I'm satisfied with Yoko having demonstrated her courage and fighting skill in Chapter 4, shaming the almighty males and elevating her karma; so as long as she's not heartbroken, humiliated, ignored or insulted in the final two chapters I'm happy!

Finally, thank you very much for all your help today.  I'm very happy to have viewable manga pages again!  You and your colleagues have done a great job.

In the final chapters of GLSV Yoko is
Spoiler for Hiden:
HA!
and
Spoiler for Hiden:
you really thought I was
going to
Spoiler for Hiden:
tell you!

That 4koma TTGL manga is called "TTGL Yoko no oheso hen" (Yoko's Bellybutton Version). There are a couple of good chapters, one with a hospital that was HILARIOUS and a couple of gay-sex related jokes that I didn't find funny.

Will we translate it? Maybe...If enough people post about wanting it perhaps that will persuade us.

Teasing is always fun, isn't it?  Thank you, kryss, for giving me that title.  From your description, the comic sounds interesting.  Plus, hilarity is a good thing!

I don't like sexist jokes/situations either, but everything relating to Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann is full of misogynistic sexism and I don't hear any hue and cry being raised about that.  Promotion of male-superiority philosophies?  Degradation of women by men?  If that doesn't faze anime gatekeepers, surely a couple of jokes about homosexuality shouldn't be that big of a problem.

As the anti-Yoko mob at gurren_lagann on LiveJournal kept telling me, "Why so serious?  It's only an anime."  Of course, that's if and only if Yoko Ritona was on the receiving end of abuse.  But those selfsame people would get all bent out of shape if Kamina, Nia or Simon were criticized.

So, yeah, I'm hoping you guys take on that project.  You'd certainly be bucking anime-insider trendiness if you did.  Thanks for your reply!
