Nehs, this is an excellent idea for thread! I always liked the Bachika sisters and their brother. Plus, in my view, Kittan and Yoko comprise the One True Pairing. It's too bad Kinon got weird toward the end; and I still can't get used to Kiyoh being married to that guy from Ritona, but it's a moot point now they have a daughter. Kiyal was always a trip!

Fly are all those from episode 4? Some of the outlines... look horrible it's just a shame. Also I agree, shame that Kinon went all weird after the time skip.
The thread title threw me off before I came in and had a look.

Yeah, these are from the 4th episode. I just got done watching the first 10 episodes recently on DVD. (yes, I bought the American DVD's!)

I don't blame you for buying the American DVDs. The dub is pretty boss in its own right.
...but, yeah. Lots of people can't stand the fourth episode, just because of the artwork. D: I heard the director for the episode (or whichever dude it was that was different on the crew) was virtually disowned by the rest of the production crew for it. O_O I mean, the episode's story was alright, but the art... *gag* ...doesn't fit in with the rest of the series at all.

Those images I posted should look a little bit better now. I ran them through the unsharp mask to bring out the edges more. Personally, I find nothing wrong with the art in Episode 4. To each her/his own, no? What I don't understand is why anyone at Gainax - or anyone, period - would give a damn about bullshit cranked out on 2chan, or even 4chan for that matter. The whole anti-Yoko thing ( e.g., the "doom bitch" malarkey) was begun by imbeciles at 2chan and 4chan; and the "bad art in Episode 4" schtick began there, too. =^..^=

The way I see episode four is that the art just doesn't fit in with the rest of the series. I mean, if the series were one to flip between art forms all the time, I doubt 2chan and 4chan would have been as, well, themselves. Personally, I think Yoko is just really unlucky and that the art of episode four was just a bit of a hiccup that didn't quite fit. Not bad for a whole series, but not for Gurren Lagann. Since Gurren Lagann had "art" and then "our we're gonna kick your ass art", it almost isn't even episode four's fault. I don't care if Yoko is "Doombitch" or not... she still rocks. I like her better than Nia, anyways. D: KIYAL POWER!

Well, the one thing I noticed when I went and watched it on DVD is the fact that if you look at how the mouths move in that episode it just looked a bit "unfinished" like the people who were working on drawing that particular episode were not paying much attention to things. I bought the first DVD's because I wanted to see what all the "hype" was about and also I wanted to support the company who produced it in hopes to see more Anime like this. Yes, this was the first time I had even seen any of these episodes.

Well, I'm glad you bought into the hype and bought the DVDs. This is one of the dubs that deserve the support.

Nehs, what you wrote a few posts back is well taken. As for me, I'm not at all disturbed by this one-episode change in artistic style. I certainly agree with you regarding Yoko, that she was indeed unlucky: she should have continued on her own and not fallen in with those two characters from Jeeha village, neither of whom appreciated her exemplary soldiering nor showed her any respect; neither did Gainax show her any respect, until late in the series; and Internet misogynists/sexists continue to denigrate her via hatred and mendacity. So, screw them! Orion, I'm glad to learn you've bought some of the anime series' digital versatile disks. I'll probably do that eventually, too, even though I've got a subtitled Japanese-language version stored on my local machine. Anyway, this thread is about the Bachika siblings a.k.a. The Black Brotherhood/Siblings. They, like Yoko, are excellent Resistance commandos who've been fighting the enemy since way before the Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann story line begins. Here are some screen captures from the apparently-dreaded Episode 4. If you click on these images, you'll access their 1280 x 720 originals. There they are! Give the linked image a horizontal flip and it becomes an excellent wallpaper. You've just got to love those hoods! Here they come! Introducing: Kittan Bachika. Introducing: Kiyoh Bachika. Introducing: Kinon Bachika. Introducing: Kiyal Bachika. Meet the Bachika sisters! The Bachika siblings know how to have some fun. Yoko Ritona and the Bachika sisters in the field, hunting. What's this? Food, perhaps. The Bachika sisters investigate. Typical: the men sit on their butts whilst the women do the work. Dining needn't be boring. Kittan rides! His sisters ride! They all ride! Kiyoh is a lovely person in every way. Kiyal and Kinon are concerned. There they go!To be continued. =^..^=

Added a spoiler tag to your post Fly, dont wanna spoil it for Orion. Anyhow, episode 4 was....I dunno...Like WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? It looks so goddamn horrible. >_> Funny how they just skipped that part in the manga and introduced em earlier. lol

I'm sorry, Orion, for spoiling that aspect of Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann for you. It's just that the series has been out for more than two years and been discussed squillions of times on the Web, so I didn't think there was anyone (or very few) who hadn't heard who died and who lived. Oh, well. Red, how long are we supposed to wait on these things? Three years? Four? I'm not being sarcastic, but just want to know for future reference. I don't enjoy spoiling things for others, but there ought to be a set period of time after release when it's safe to discuss/mention what's happened. Well, I guess it was a waste of time to post those screen captures from Episode 4. Everybody's already on the "bad art" bandwagon, so I'll desist from rummaging around in my files for Bachika-siblings images since the best ones are all from that episode. =^..^=

I dont know.. But we do the manga, there is quite a big portion of our readers that dont have connections to get the anime, so they've only have read the manga.
Its not just a bandwagon. >_> The animation is just horrible, looks really lazy.
