Since the update to Acrobat PDF Reader 8, an annoying CPU hogging "AdobeUpdater.exe" has been reluctant to leave my process list. I did manage to get rid of the damn thing by removing it from auto start at MSconfig* and force shutting my computer. It was the straw the broke the camel's back, and and I searched for a better PDF reader. I have already tried
Brava! Reader, but apparently it was just an evaluation copy, and I couldn't use it anymore.
And so, I went out and searched for a reasonable PDF reader, that won't be as slow and resource taking as Acrobat's.
I found
Sumatra PDF Viewer. It's small, light, and fast. It doesn't have all those weird functions that are hardly ever used at Acrobat's reader like "read out load"(which I doubt works in any other language than English). On the downside, it does miss certain useful functions, like a search function, or ctrl-p (for now).
I'm using it at the moment, and it's really neat.
Only problem that it starts with an ugly yellow screen, which, mostly, you don't see.
If you experience problems with it, try "use MuPDF rendering engine" at the View menu.
* please add screen shots on how open and remove things from start up using MSconfig, I don't want to post screen shots of translated Windows.
Also, I want to say that you should be careful if you removed things from MSconfig, some of things there are important, and some are not so much. If you don't know what a thing is, google it, and mostly, it will find what it is.
