You've all seen the "Get Firefox - Save the web from IE" banners right? (Well the link should have gone to opera.com)

Most of my friends use Fx cos they say that
"Firefox is open source, a none profit organization, the fastest, most secure browser and its just the 'best' browser"
That's mostly the arguments i get on the web too. But just how true is that?
Ive been so annoyed lately by all the myths, lies and fanboys surounding Fx,
so i did some research and found a interesting website.

In short what that website says is that, "Mozilla Corp." is not a none profit organization, Fx isn't more safe than IE, Fx is one of the slowest browsers around.
Take a look at that website, its great.

Why you should use Opera.

Reason 1: Fastest.
Firefox is soooo not the fastest browser around, Opera is. Source
And Opera's "back and "forward" functions is by far the fastest of any browser, no load time what so ever.

Reason 2: Most Secure.
Opera is by far the most secure browser.
- Opera's security test results.
- Firefox's security test results.

Reason 3: Web standard
Opera kicks Firefox and IE's ass when it comes to web standards.
I think a little explanation is need, the w3c web standard is the standard every browser should be using.
If all browser followed the standards to 100% there would be no problem viewing or coding pages.
But when webdeveloper code a website they have to do 1000 hours of error searching so that the website becomes compatible for every browser.

This is the most importand reason to change to Opera, opera passed the Acid 2 browser test, Firefox didn't.
"The Acid 2 Browser Test released in April 13, 2005 is a test page, written to help browser vendors ensure proper support for web standards in their products."
Test it on your browser. http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html

Help save the web for real, use a browser that follows the standards.

Reason 4: You only need Opera.
You don't need to install 15+ addons in opera (like on Fx) for having a great browser.
Opera comes with superiors tabbing technology, Opera is the browser that used tabbing first by the way.
You can easily change between tabs by rightclicking and scrolling, it has a interactive graphical environment like no other.
It was the first browser with integrated search engine function.
Integrated spellchecker, encyclopedia, dictionary, translator, w3c validator, IRC client, Torrent client, email client.

Opera have so many unique features, take a look here. http://www.opera.com/products/desktop/

"Firefox with 20 or so of the most popular addons will make it superior"

Well, firefoxs "superior" addons is very insecure, and can make outsiders run damaging code on your computer.
And Opera more or less comes with all the "addons" you need.. http://files.myopera.com/Rijk/blog/extensions.html

Sure Opera isnt perfect, but its by far the one that is closest to getting there.

Want the fastest, most secure and a unique browser? Well stop using IE or your IE ripoff Firefox and get Opera now.

From what I've read, Mozilla (not mozilla firefox, just mozilla) does pretty much everything you've got up there. Maybe not everything, and it might be slower (since I've not tried opera) but I doubt there's enough of a difference to make it worth my while to get Opera.

I'd probably make an informed guess that its along this sort of ranking system:

1: Opera
2: Mozilla
3: Firefox
4: I.E.

Ah you mean SeaMonkey.

Well you can compare the speed yourself.
http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html#winspeed

Mozilla/SeaMonkey is nothing compared to Operas features tho, mouse gestures, speed dial.. i can go on forever.. Tongue
The only thing (in my opinion) that Mozilla is better at is the email client.

But seriously you really have to experience opera to know what i mean.

Anyways, I do like SeaMonkey better than FF, but they say that SeaMonkey is for webdeveloper... but it still fails the Acid 2 test. -.-

First, let me state that I have both FF and Opera installed. I like some of the features in Opera, and am very satisfied with it as a browser.

Now, here are the reasons I use Firefox.

Quote
Reason 1: Fastest.

I see no noticeable difference in speed going on most of the site that I browse. I don't care what those little number says, if I don't notice it, it doesn't really matter. =)

Quote
Reason 2: Most Secure.

I'm not getting most of the ones listed (too much technical jargon). As much as I'm not getting it, this is what I do get.

Quote
The most severe unpatched Secunia advisory affecting Mozilla Firefox 1.x, with all vendor patches applied, is rated Less critical

Once again, because I've had no problems with FF on security, personal experience win over those numbers.

Quote
Reason 3: Web standard

Ok, why is it a standard when 99% of the people in the world use a browser that doesn't meet it? Surely developers will make sure it works on FF and IE because that's what most people use? (that test was fun ^_^)

Quote
Reason 4: You only need Opera.

I use FF with addons. You might say that it's a bad thing, but I see it as a positive point to FF as it lets you customize to your pleasure. Don't like that interface? Change it. Don't like that tabbing interface? Change it. Want to get rid of all those ads? Do it.

When I got Opera, I was pleasantly surprised by how many functions there are in there, but you can't change them to your liking. I didn't like the download screen, can I change it like I did in FF? Nope. I didn't want flash ads, do I really have to identify each one instead of adding one extension?  Like on FF? Opera has widgets, which are great, but you can't really change the original interface.

Quote
Superior tabbing technology
I don't know, with TabMix, FF comes in pretty darn close.

Quote
Integrated spellchecker, encyclopedia, dictionary, translator, w3c validator, IRC client, Torrent client, email client.

Do I really need all this in my browser at all times?

In conclusion, I'm happy with FF, Plasmacaster is happy with Seamonkey, Reddie is happy with Opera. We all win, do you see it? ^_^

Next time I'll waste my minutes doing something more meaningful.

When a standard is set by a body, it is up to companies to meet it, not for the body to change the standards. should be the same for browsers.

well.. for me.. Opera seems to look good..  in my school they got all 3.. IE FF and Opera.. i use Opera cause i wanna check it out.. but i dont see a bit of diff from FF.. and FF browser seems to look cooler, and customizable..  ive used FF since i started high school.. 4 yrs ago.. i never had a problem at all with it.. and i havent gotten any viruses..

my cousin uses IE and her computer always crashed.. so i just fixed it and blah blah blah.. not important.. but yeah.. many ppl who do use IE get viruses.. so i guess that one is not a pretty good browser..

i wanna know red. do u use Opera?.. which one do u prefer to use of all the browsers..

Okay right now I am using Opera... I think red is right. It loads so much more quicker, and I like the Idea of when you open a tab, it has speed dial. I added some to it so when I open a tab i just click on what I was to go on, such as Bebo, AnCo, Google etc... A much easier and FASTER browser.
Thanks for the reccomendation red.

I've been using Opera, not at all any faster than firefox, sadly not as customizable as firefox.
and it lacks the quick search ability! >.<
that's the most important thing!
also, you can't open a new tap by alt+enter, that's a major drawback, and I can't make it go the the tab I want after I close the current one, another problem, especially in galleries.
the auto-restart feature is great, just close the browser and pff! it'll be back the next time you open it.
uses a considerably LOT less resources than firefox and IE7, though when a lot of tabs are open it isn't any different. (well, IE7 crashes no matter what you do, so yea, it's different)

........

Ugh, it is faster.

But i wont argue with you since you apparetly haven't done your research.
There's proved statistics of that all over the web, even if you might not have noticed it.

No its not as customizable as firefox, but it comes with almost everything you need.

And just how does it "lack quick search ability"?
If you're referring to the google bar i have no idea what you mean.
You don't even need to use it, you can just type  in what you want directly in the address field and hit enter.

Also, go to a website that you usually search their database, like www.anidb.info.
Right click in their search field and select "add new search..." after that you have a direct search script right in your browser, just check your search bar to the right.

Also another nice feature is its ad blocker.
Just right click on a page and select "block content" and see for yourself.

Also alt+enter? -.-,

What's wrong with Ctrl+T?

quick search is the owning fx feature.
you press ctrl+f, and a small box at the bottom right corner of the screen opens up, and as you type each letter, it searches and also let's you know if the string doesn't exist in the text. just leet.

and alt+enter is useful. say, you are at a certain tab, and you start typing at the search bar. you just press alt+enter and it just pops up in a new tab. try that in Opera, and it will open a something about "fishing".
then press ctrl+t to open a new tab, and the search string is left at the last tab.

Umm well it sure isnt done the same way as in Opera.

Uriku, of course opera doent have everything you like about FF.
But i for once cant live without the Speed Dial. That is the best feature ever created after the tab.

Just shows how original opera is.

Totally agree with the speed dial, I use it all the time. It is the best feature I think Smiley
